Among the leading brands of the grocery stores, Albertson grocery store is one of the biggest names. This is a completely owned branch of Eden Prairie, a Supervalu based company, which serves as a retailer of approximately 530 such departmental stores in different parts of Nevada, California, and Washington, Montana and in other parts of the country. The premier company ranked fifth among the seventy-five grocery retailers of North America.

This store was founded by Joe Albertson in the year 1939. At that time, they included some lucrative offers and additional benefits with the products. This does a great publicity of the store among the society, and in a very short span of the time, this store became the prior choice for the customers. Initially they worked as single entity but later on in 1969, they joined hands with Skaggs group of companies. Collectively they opened the departmental and drugstores. However, this partnership ended in 1977 and both of them separated their business to different places. With the changing process and many ups and downs in the company, the biggest acquisition took place in the year 1999, when the company overtook the American store companies. By this, Albertson grocery store became the largest store of the America. For some more acquisitions, the Albertson group was forced by some antitrust personals to sell their hundreds of stores. In 2001, they sold some of their drug stores to the Canadian drug store company. They also closed some other stores. After selling all the stores, Albertson left Texas finally in the month of April 2002. At the time they left, they were holding the third largest storehouse of the country, next to Kroger grocery store that already left the market in 1993.

In 2002, again they sold around 43 stores including Seesel store, chain of supermarket in Memphis. The year 2004, bought some good fruitful results for Albertson when they acquired companies like Shaw's supermarket and Star market in $2.5 billion. Latest in month of February 2010, company named as Brookshire planted four stores of Albertson. As the time passed by, they acquired some more companies. After the acquisitions, they come up with a slogan called "crazy for food" in 2007 which then changed to "Good things are just around the corner" in 2008 for the sake to unify the Supervalu group. In the year 2009, they renamed their stores as "Fresh Market" and now only three stores are running on the name of Albertson.
